Buyisiwe Makhunga

Managing Executive

Buyisiwe is the Founder and Managing Executive at Kazi Capital.  She has 20 years of investment banking and private equity experience, attained at Investec Corporate Finance as an advisor and Kazi Capital as an investment executive. During Buyisiwe’s tenor at Investec, she advised on a number of M&A and B-BBEE transactions for a very diverse client base (listed and unlisted) with a total value in excess of R25 billion. Her journey into Private Equity and Fund Management started at Heritage Capital, a fund manager she co-founded in 2015, raising a fund and investing growth capital in mid-cap sized businesses.


At Kazi Capital, she’s been in instrumental in driving the investment strategy of the firm, capital raising and building its current investment portfolio.


Buyisiwe completed her articles at the PwC Johannesburg office within the financial services division and briefly in the San Francisco Office on a secondment. She also completed the African Leadership Development Program with Oxford University in 2011 and is an Archbishop Desmond Tutu fellow.


She was awarded the Corporate Financier of the year award in 2013 by the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals. In 2021 she was also awarded the Entrepreneur of the year award by the African Women Chartered Accountants.

She serves on a few independent boards of listed and unlisted companies, some in the capacity as chair of the audit and risk committee as well as a member the social and ethics committee, and others in the capacity as lead independent the board. She also serves of the boards of the Kazi Capital’s portfolio companies. She is a trustee on the Ridge School Trust and member of the Kingsmead College Council and Finance Committee.
